The charter for Delta Alpha Sigma Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was issued

in March of 1949 however, the establishment of the Chapter was April 20, 1949.  Soror Clemmie E.

Webber, Southern Regional Director, presided at the very impressive Chapter establishment

ceremony.  To appreciate what was involved in establishing a Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority

in Pensacola, one has to remember that it was in the early to mid 40’s when the initial contacts were

made with National Headquarters.  This was a period before integration, therefore a number of

opportunities and facilities were not available for the African-American community. We have been

serving Pensacola, Florida and the surrounding area for over 66 years.

The charter members of the chapter were Soror E. Altamese Dudley, President; Soror Irma Cole Buford, Vice-President; Soror Genevieve L. Lowe, Corresponding Secretary and Chaplain; Soror Helen Andrews, Recording Secretary; Soror Martiel A. Watson, Treasurer and Sargeant at Arms; and Soror Katherine Goldsmith, Journalist.  As a result of the nomenclature revision in the 1956 National Convention, Delta Alpha Sigma Chapter became Pensacola Alumnae Chapter.

We continue in the 21st Century to service the community, grow in membership, and enhance sisterhood in our chapter.  We are so proud of the leadership that we have had over the years.
